Colours Play An Important Role In The Look Of A House

  in  The Home
The house I live in is designed and planned by an interior designer and an architect. It has unique, elaborate stair parts and glass balustrades. In modern times, living in apartments and houses has undergone drastic changes. More and more people are taking the bold move to radically improve their houses to get a fresh and new look. Be it a new conservatory, loft room, whatever - it's become a popular trend amongst home-owners to invest further into their property.

Why has this trend happened? I believe in times where house prices are going up faster than wage inflation, many see their home as something that makes them more financially secure. The new bathroom (for example) might cost a lot in the short-term, but in the longer term it might actually make them a profit when it comes to selling the house. Plus, of course, they get a new bathroom!

As for myself, the architect has planned my house to accommodate more storage space. Believe it or not, it was easier for me to find an architect than an interior decorator. Why? Because colour is so important to me, and I found it difficult to find a decorator on my wavelength who understood colour like I do. Many decorators are perfectly competent at their job, but they don't feel comfortable painting outside particular palettes. Many assume Magnolia or some other cream to be what everyone would want. Not so for me though.

I am a big believer in feng shui, and understand the influence that colour, light, and furnishings has on the human mind. Colour has an influence on everybody, but for me - that influence is quite profound. Colours are a part and parcel of our lives. My decorator has used shades of colour that have therapuetic aspects. Colours that exude positive energy give a person a sense of well being. The paint colour of each and every room has been to help create a calming atmosphere.

Overall, I'm delighted with my "new" house (it really feels like I've moved house, without having to use a removal company!) - it's a lot more relaxing.
